On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) hosted their Fifth Annual Memories Matter Event. In a special evening of hope and optimism, the event brought together Alzheimer’s advocates, caregivers, family, and supporters around the ADDF’s mission to conquer Alzheimer’s disease, raising over $1.1 million to support research efforts.

The event featured a highly anticipated appearance by GRAMMY® Award-winning artist, songwriter, actress, author, and philanthropist Sara Bareilles, who delivered a heartwarming and inspiring performance.

Event co-founders Stephanie Ginsberg and Wendy Wilshin both spoke about their Alzheimer’s journey and working with the ADDF, remarking on the progress and optimism that this event has spurred over the last several years.

“We formed a committee of people who, like us, have a personal connection to the disease and were driven to see progress. We bonded over the helplessness we felt watching our loved ones slip deeper into the darkness of this disease. We also connected over our shared passion to make a difference and fight for a cure. Together we went from feeling uncomfortable talking openly about Alzheimer’s to being part of a determined and supportive community,” said Stephanie.

“When we started Memories Matter five years ago, a cure for Alzheimer’s disease seemed so far away, but today, we reflect on how far we’ve come in this short time, shifting our focus to hope and optimism. The research has never been more promising, and thanks to the ADDF and its cutting-edge investigators, we are moving closer to a cure every day. We’ve seen promising results from repurposed drugs, new technologies, clinical trials, FDA approvals, and more. The ADDF has been at the forefront of those changes by helping to rapidly advance progress in Alzheimer’s drug development, diagnostics, and prevention. With all this news, we truly find ourselves hopeful about the future,” remarked Wendy.

Notable guests including ADDF board member Gary Lauder and his wife Laura, Gillian Hearst, and Young Professionals Committee Co-Chairs Josh Lauder and Gina Holzheimer were among the over 450 supporters in attendance.

The evening also included a seated dinner, featuring speakers such as ADDF CEO Mark Roithmayr, ADDF Board Chair Randal Sandler, and Alzheimer’s advocates and caregivers Michelle and Joel Florin, who spoke about their late mother and wife Jacki, who last her battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s last year. Following dinner, Lydia Fenet led a spirited and engaging live auction that included a Napa Valley Wine Package and a Deer Valley St. Regis Getaway.
