Description
The Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of accounting duties including financial record keeping for transactions including A/P, A/R, monthly billing, and General Ledger. Ensure that accounts are current and accurate, using software, spreadsheets, and other tools to track and manage data. Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations. This position reports to the Controller and also works closely with the CFO.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Primary responsibilities of the Accountant include, but are not limited to:
- Manage all aspects of day-to-day accounting processes including A/P, A/R, payroll, journal entries, and bank reconciliation.
- Accurately book and code all revenues and expenses in QuickBooks and assure compliance with budgets.
- Reconcile Development, Special Events, Underwriting and Program expenditures with QuickBooks.
- Prepare wires and checks and manage payroll with a third-party processor.
- Assist Controller with monthly close.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including standard financial reports, budget vs. actual reports and grant-specific financial reports.
- Coordinate with Auditors in preparation of year-end audit and support CFO and Controller during audit process.
- Facilitate transition from Cash to Accrual Based Accounting
- Work with Controller and CFO in development and analysis of annual organization budget.
- Maintain accounting procedures and policies and systems of internal controls to ensure the integrity of all financial systems.
- Correspond with bank and vendors.
- Perform non-routine tasks as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of work experience in a staff accountant or accountant capacity
- Nonprofit experience required.
- Detailed knowledge of GAAP/Accrual Based accounting.
- Proven experience with accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments in QuickBooks or similar system.
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and ability to learn new financial accounting software.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and database management.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across the organization.
- Exhibits initiative and provides good judgement.
- Detail oriented and able to manage competing time sensitive requests and priorities.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across the organization.
- Strong work ethic and integrity.
